The Rallarvegen (the Navvies' Road) is designated as a cultural monument and important part of Norwegian National Heritage. It has been named Norway's most beautiful bike ride several times. This is a journey through powerful nature along beautiful lakes and between high mountains. It lies at the foot of two national parks, Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda National Parks. The way the road is built and maintained is still in keeping with what was typical of that time, and today everyone can admire the impressive work done on walls and bridges in the early 20th century.
The road runs parallel with the Bergen railway and is closed for vehicles, it continues purely as a trail/cycle-track.

Our mission at RallarAdventure is to share the experience of the Norwegian mountains with our guests. We are passionate about nature and sustainability, that is why we love working in this area where there are no cars, no roads, no pollution ! Only accessible by train. We promote climate friendly travel.

Our ecological responsibility : We take pride in promoting sustainable tourism. We use no carbon emitting vehicles and getting to us is only possible by train, which is electric driven and the electricity comes from clean hydroelectricity from the valley.

At RallarAdventure we respect nature reserves, always leave campsites clean and tidy and always dispose of your rubbish properly, recycling when possible.

When no better solution is available, climate impact is 100% carbon offset by planting trees with Ecotree., Anfibio and Sitew.

“ If not us, who? If not now, when? ”

Our base-camp and headquarters is at Vatnahalsen hotel. We have been working, on and along the Rallarvegen, since 2020, and we would love to show you just how great it is up here away from the stress of town life.

Steven N - TripAdvisor
Great trip, great scenery, great guide, 5 stars *****

This was a great trip. The meeting point was very convenient - at the front of the Vatnahalsen Hotel, about 70 metres from the Vatnahalsen station. Our guide, Paul, was very friendly and helpful and showed us how to operate the e-bikes. Helmets, gloves and glasses were supplied. The bikes had a pannier bag to put some of our things in for the ride (e.g. drink bottle) while our large backpacks were locked securely in the shed rather than take them on the ride with us. The e-bikes were in excellent condition. All set, we headed off on a two hour ride on gravel roads through some great scenery. Past lakes, streams and waterfalls, over bridges through valleys, etc. There were some hills but the gears and electric assistance made it easy. We stopped half way overlooking a stream for a hot drink - tea, coffee or hot chocolate - supplied by our guide, Paul. We went at our pace and had plenty of opportunity to stop for photos along the way. It goes without saying that the scenery was magnificent. Paul also provided to us the photos and videos that he took of us along the way.
All in all, a great tour. Thank you.
Rex Russell - Google Maps
5 stars *****

We can not speak highly enough of our tour with Rallar Adventures.
We booked this tour before we left Australia and Paul was extremely accommodating in providing information, booking rail tickets and explaining how to get to Vatnahalsen from Bergen. It was a lot easier than we thought! The train ride was beautiful, scenery stunning. We then walked from Mydral Station - it was a lovely walk but be warned the path is steep. For those who are really enthusiastic the Flom Zipline is up the top. The day we went the heavens decided to open up and it was pouring but that didn’t stop us, it was worth every minute. Paul provided us with modern reliable e-bikes, warm waterproof gloves and safety glasses. After our safety brief we were off. If you want to get away from the “touristy” things and see the real Norway get onto one of the many tours that Paul offers.
Thank you Paul for a great memory of Norway.
Denise - GetYourGuide
5 stars *****

We loved this 2 hr bike ride through waterfalls and grand views of area. Our bikes were new electric, easy to use and adjusted by our guide.
We recommend this activity to anyone seeking to get close to the beauty of this country. Our guide also shared some interesting history of this particular area.
Gregory G - TripAdvisor

Pablo Blanco - Google Maps
100% recomendable, 5 estrellas *****
